The project will renovate multiple floors of the Health Science Instruction & Research (HSIR) towers to meet the current and future laboratory research needs for the School of Dentistry and the School of Medicine.

Prior to the laboratory renovation, Estructure participated in a utilities upgrade of the building to address seismic life safety deficiencies. Our team conducted a complete survey of the building to identify areas of risk in nonstructural components and provided design details for retrofit.

The full and partial floor renovations include demolition of existing spaces and build out of new laboratory and support spaces. Estructure is the structural engineer for the project, collaborating with the project team using Lean Construction methods, including BIM, set-based design processes, pull scheduling, and Last Planner™ production management techniques. UCSF is using design/build delivery for the major engineering subcontracts, and Estructure is providing structural design for all the design/build contracts to ensure consistent quality and proper support and seismic protection of nonstructural components.
