A seismic evaluation of 95 Kirkham was conducted as part of the University of California Seismic Policy and deficiencies requiring seismic improvement were identified. In cooperation with Sola Architects, Estructure developed a seismic retrofit scheme to fit seamlessly into planned renovations, and prepared design documents for the retrofit. The project included strengthening existing plywood shear walls, adding new plywood shear walls, installing extensive hardware to serve as collectors and holdowns, and the addition of a new elevator.

The project also included renovation of the first floor Gait Lab, which develops, tests, and implements precision-based biomechanical tools to diagnose and treat joint and muscular conditions. A force platform was recessed in the ground floor and an overhead fall restraint system was added (with very limited story height) to create an inter-disciplinary diagnostic tool using sensors and motion capture instruments. The lab is creating clever analytical approaches to support patient recovery.
