Estructure provided structural engineering services for the 31,000 square foot renovation for Stanford Health Care at 6121 Hollis in Emeryville. The project created a state-of-the-art medical office facility with clinical exam rooms and imaging suites for CT, PetCT, and MRI equipment. Upgrades of the existing building MEP infrastructure included new rooftop equipment and significant new suspended utilities. Estructure designed new rooftop platforms and strengthening of the existing wood-framed roof trusses to support the new equipment and distribution systems. The century-old building structure provided many unique design challenges. To minimize new load on the existing roof, interior walls and ceilings were designed as freestanding structures. The existing concrete slab on grade had over 15 different elevations throughout the project area, which required new topping slabs, ramps, and raised floor systems for access throughout the facility. And during construction, an existing 30 ft deep vault was discovered below the floor slap that required investigation and structural infill to support new imaging equipment foundations. Estructure worked closely with the design team to develop constructable and cost-effective solutions to support new MEP infrastructure, medical equipment and architectural interiors while allowing the exposed brick and wood-framed structure to shine.
