Estructure provided structural engineering services for the replacement of two air handling units in the Long Hospital Basement Mechanical Room that serves 13 operating rooms of UCSF Moffitt and Long Hospitals. The first replacement air handling unit was installed on the roof of the hospital emergency department. Ductwork was routed down through the emergency department into the basement and connected to the existing distribution system. A canopy, vestibule, and site work improvements were also added to the emergency department drop off. The second air handling unit was installed on the fifth-floor roof, over an existing operating room. Because the weight of the air handling units exceeded the capacity of the existing roof decks, Estructure developed creative support details above the roof to avoid disturbing critical hospital functions below. The project also included the addition of new chiller and heat pump equipment for expanded service to the hospital, and a complete renovation of two hospital operating rooms.
