Maryann Phipps Gives Keynote Speech at EERI National Conference

Maryann Phipps gave a keynote speech entitled “Toward Performance Based Construction – Better Buildings by Design” at the EERI 11th National Conference of Earthquake Engineering held in Los Angeles on June 25-29, 2018. Maryann’s speech was a tribute to the late Professor Steve Mahin, “an earthquake engineering visionary and foot soldier who during his 50-year academic career at UC Berkeley made a difference by reducing seismic risk worldwide.”

SEAONC and SEAOC established the College of Fellows to honor esteemed members who have provided distinguished service to the association and made outstanding contributions in the field of structural engineering.

City of Oakland Breaks Ground on Rainbow Recreation Center Expansion

Construction crews have broken ground on a project to renovate and expand the City of Oakland’s 40-year-old Rainbow Recreation Center at 5800 International Boulevard. The $13.7 million project — expected to be finished by spring 2019 — will bring a state-of-art recreation center to serve the East Oakland Community.
