FEMA P58/ATC 58: Development of Next Generation Performance – Based Seismic Design Procedures

imgBack to Projects

Maryann Phipps served on the project management committee for the Development of Next Generation Performance-Based Seismic Design Procedures for New and Existing Buildings for FEMA. The 10-year $20 million work effort resulted in the development of a methodology for seismic performance assessment of individual buildings accounting for uncertainty in response predictions and communicating performance in ways that are intended to better relate to the decision-making needs of stakeholders. Maryann also served on the Phase 2 Stakeholder Products Team which helped to develop performance-based design guidelines and stakeholder guides using the information and materials developed under Phase 1. Phase 2 resulted in guidelines for identifying and selecting appropriate systems, configurations, and structural characteristics necessary for meeting selected performance objectives in varying regions of seismicity.
